We love to collaborate with people that share our ethos and were delighted to welcome Norwegian interior designer Camilla Bakken to Ekornes Bua for an exclusive styling session. If you haven’t heard of Camilla , she has been taking social media by storm with her interior and design hacks, helping followers transform their homes throughout Norway. Making her debut at Stressless^® and inspired by this season’s interior trends, Camilla shares the secret of layering and her special formula for creating spaces with soul.

How does it feel to be here at the Stressless® showroom?

I’m so honoured to be here. It’s not a place that is open to many people, so being invited to look at all the textures and all the Stressless^®furniture and designs here, it’s an honour.

MIXING FABRIC AND LEATHER CAN BE TRICKY FOR PEOPLE. WHAT IS YOUR ADVICE ON HOW TO APPROACH THIS?

Mixing fabric and leather can be tricky for people. What is your advice on how to approach this?

I think mixing is the approach, mixing and matching and trying to tell a story. Blending textures together, putting more together to get a bolder room, it’s a secret but you should do it. You should never ever be afraid to mix and match.

Many people shy away from using big, bold pieces. What is your take on that?

I think big, bold pieces are the way you build a room. How you can really use a room and make it look bigger. I think it’s something we don’t use enough and you should, because taking risks in interior makes good design.

Stressless® Mayfair is one of our classics. How do you style it to make it fresh and relevant?

I always start by saying ‘don’t put baby in corner.’ Sit in chair, take it with you on your interior journey. Start to include it as much as possible with your styling and put it together so you can continue telling the same story.

How do we deal with these constantly shifting interior trends?

I think you need a good base; you can never go wrong with a good base. Invest in a timeless, good quality of furniture and then you can add decor elements that you can change, as we always crave newness. This is so much easier and also works on a budget, you don’t have to change everything.
