Ekornes is one of Europe’s largest consumers of leather. We purchase leather from selected tanneries all over the world. Over 90% of our products are delivered in leather, and we have our own team of leather specialists.
Inspections and audits are carried out regularly at all suppliers, both by Ekornes and external inspectors. We cooperate with recognized international leather institutions to always keep up to date.
Environment and health
Ekornes requires that production complies with all current international laws, guidelines and recommendations. Sustainabillity has high priority in our organization, and it is clearly stated in our company polizy. We cooperate closely with the leading independent leather technology center BLC to ensure that we are always up-to-date regarding concerns relating to health, safety, animal welfare and the environment. Ekornes demands full compliance with the Restricted Substances List of chemicals from REACH. This is revised annually.
Several tests are carried out to monitor and ensure full quality of our products, and to ensure the health and well-being of our customers and employees. Testing methods are revised once a year, in order to ensure that they are updated with the latest equipment and testing technologies.
Ekornes aim at using as much of one hide as possible, but we have stringent, fixed rules for the selection and use of leather. Some natural markings are important because they give the furniture individuality. Other may mar the appearance, and are hidden on the furniture or not used at all.
